Register for residence (new place of residence)
If you move to another municipality, then you have to register in your new place of residence.
The registration office is
- the municipal or city council where you live or
- administration association or the municipality which handles the tasks of the registration office for the residential area.
You are moving house.
In order to register, you must, as a rule, appear to the registration authority personally. The registration authority records your new data and provides you with a print out of this. You confirm the correctness and completeness of your data with your signature on the print out.
You then receive a written confirmation in the form of a free-of-charge official registration confirmation.
You can also register your family members, should they have lived with you at the same place of residence previously and be moving house with you.
Within two weeks of moving house
The registration authority can request additional documents from you. These generally include:
- Passport or personal ID card
- ID documents for family members: For children who do not hold a child’s passport, you must present the birth certificate.
- Certificate of the landlord
Tip: You can have the address in your ID document updated at the same time when you register your place of residence.
After registration, you receive an official confirmation of registration for your records.
