The local council in St. Leon-Rot
On 1st January, 1974, in the course of the district reform, the communities Rot and St. Leon amalgamated to the new community of St. Leon-Rot and stated in their new general statutes that the so-called “fake part-community elections” should be carried out. This should ensure that both parts of the new community could send an equal number of representatives into the council. This “fake part-community election” is mainly of importance in such unified communities, in which the size of the individual parts of the community varies.
After 20 years of unity, shortly before the elections to the local council in 1994, the local council at that time decided to change the general statutes and to abolish the “fake part-community elections” as both parts of the community were almost the same size.
There are 22 members in the local council of St.Leon-Rot; they are directly elected by the citizens for a term of office of 5 years.
The next local elections will probably take place on 2014.
The council consists of members of five parliamentary parties (CDU = Christian Democratic Union, JL/CDU Rot = Christian Democratic Union and Young list, FW = Free Electors, SPD = Social-Democratic Party of Germany) as well as FDP = Free Democratic Party:
