Applying for entry in the register of dentists
The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZV) manages a register of dentists for each licensing district, in which dentists are listed. It contains details concerning the person and professional activities of the dentists which are of significance to the licence.
You must have yourself entered in the register of dentists if you
- wish to apply for a licence or
- are seeking employment at a licensed dental practice.
Acceptance into the register of dentists requires that you
- are qualified as a dentist and
- have carried out at least two years of preparatory work.
Note: In some cases, the two-year preparatory time can be omitted. For this, you must have obtained a degree in dentistry in other Member States of the European Union which is recognised under EU law and you must be entitled to practise.
You must have assisted or represented one or more panel dentists for at least six months of the preparatory time. Up to three months of this time can be replaced by work of the same duration in a university dental clinic.
Please note: Representation time will only be recognised if you were employed for at least one year before this:
- as an assistant at a panel dentists,
- in university dental clinics
- in the dental department of a hospital
- in public health services
- in the Bundeswehr (German army) or
- in dental clinics.
The remaining preparation time can also be spent as an employed dentist in one of the named services. Activities can only be counted if they last for longer than three weeks.
You must make a written application for entry into the register of dentists at the competent regional head office of the KZV Baden-Württemberg. The regional head office of your place of residence is responsible. You will receive written confirmation of the entry.
Note: In case of two partial entries in various entry regions, two entries will take place in the register of dentists of the respective regions.
You must prove all details given in the application. In all cases, you must attach the following documents to your application:
- birth certificate (Geburtsurkunde)
- licence to practice as a dentist (Approbationsurkunde)
- proof of work as a dentist following passing of the dental examination
You must provide the documents as originals or as officially certified copies.
Note: If you cannot submit the necessary documents, you must demonstrate in other ways that you fulfil the requirements. Please ask the competent body in which ways you can provide the proof.
